Dr. James R. Kass has been working in the field of human spaceflight for more than 30 years. He was an investigator on the first Spacelab mission in the early 80s in the field of neurophysiology. In the decade following, he gained industrial experience at several aerospace companies in Germany, before joining the European Space Agency at its research and technology centre, ESTEC, in the Netherlands.
Dr. Kass has trained astronauts and worked on the ground operations teams for several Spacelab /Space Shuttle and MIR missions (including the tragic STS-107), with crews from Russia, USA, Middle and Far East, and several European countries. He has also worked with cosmonauts of the former Salyut space station and astronauts of the first US space station, Skylab. He has participated as scientist and reviewer in several isolation experiments investigating psychology of long-duration isolation, as one will certainly encounter on Mars.
Dr. Raye Kass, Professor of Applied Human Sciences at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, currently spearheads group theory courses in both the undergraduate and graduate level. Dr. Kass has been highlighted frequently by both national and international press agencies for both her space sciences and group theory research. Dr. Kass has also been invited to be involved in numerous space research projects in conjunction with the Canadian Space Agency and NASA, including the Psychological Experiment / Training Programme for the CAPSULS Mission held in Canada, the SFINCCS mission held in Russia, and the NSBRI (National Space Biomedical Research Institute) Ground-based Research Project with the NASA Ames Research Centre in the USA.

Sachi Kato grew up in a multigenerational household in Gifu, Japan, where she learned traditional methods of food harvesting and preparation from her family members. Sachi trained and worked as a macrobiotic chef at Kushi Institutes in America, Japan, and Europe. She completed the comprehensive Macrobiotic Leadership Program, in which she studied cooking, healing, philosophy, and Oriental diagnosis.
Sachi has since taught classes in these subjects at the Kushi Institute, as well as to the public in California, New York, and Japan. While her dishes possess a Japanese sensibility and are rooted in macrobiotic practice, Sachi continually finds inspiration for her cooking from her international community and its many rich culinary traditions. As a result, she gratefully adopts cooking techniques and ingredients from her planetary neighbors to innovate original recipes, as well as to create new versions of many well-known classics.
Employing her professional photography skills to capture the vibrant images of the dishes that appear in the pages of this cookbook, Sachi contributes her efforts as both a visual and culinary artist. She happily shares these gifts from nature which are steeped in the awareness that real nourishment and amazing health start with home cooking.

Chris Kattan began his comedic career as a member of several improv/sketch comedy troupes, including The Groundlings in Los Angeles. His father was an original member of the troupe. Kattan also did some minor roles on TV, including an episode of NewsRadio. He moved to New York City to work on Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2003. His recurring characters included Mr. Peepers, Mango, Azrael Abyss, Kyle DeMarco from The DeMarco Brothers, Gay Hitler, Suel Forrester (known for the term “dagitybo”) and, most notably, one half of the Butabi Brothers with fellow SNL (and Groundlings) cast member Will Ferrell, known for their trademark head-bobbing. Kattan and Ferrell continued the characters in 1998’s A Night at the Roxbury. Kattan has made one appearance on Broadway, playing Xanthias in a production of Aristophanes’ The Frogs. Kattan appeared in a Diet Pepsi MAX commercial during Super Bowl XLII that featured the song “What Is Love” and had many actors in the commercial performing the Butabi head bob. In August 2009, Kattan starred in the IFC miniseries Bollywood Hero, where he portrays himself and the difficulties he faces after a career as a comic actor, trying to attain leading man status. Starting in fall of 2009, Kattan appeared in a supporting role in The Middle. He also appeared in an episode of How I Met Your Mother as a star in a fictional movie within the show. In December 2011, Kattan made a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live‘s Christmas show, hosted by Jimmy Fallon.

Edouard Kayihura is a human rights activist and survivor of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, during which, he spent 100 days as a refugee in the Hotel des Mille Collines a.k.a. ”Hotel Rwanda.” Before he moved to the United States, he was the prosecutor in charge of the department of the prosecutions of the genocide crime and crimes against humanity before the Tribunal of the First Instance of Kigali. He was also executive secretary and legal representative of Kanyarwanda Human Rights. He speaks at different schools and universities in the states about his experience; Transitional Justice and Reconciliation; and Genocide denial. He is the member of the International Association of Genocide Scholars.
