Joshua Gowin has been writing about aggression since 2007 when a violent tragedy–the murder of a student by a family member–struck the community at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UT Health) where Josh was studying. He earned a Master’s degree in 2009 for his work exploring the potential of a migraine medication, Zomig®, to block alcohol-induced aggressive behavior. The same year, he interned at Psychology Today, where he currently writes a blog about neuroscience titled “You, Illuminated.” He is currently finishing his PhD at UT Health, studying how the cycle of violence may be caused by disruptions in the body’s stress system as a result of child abuse.
