Elizabeth Norris briefly taught high school English and history before trading the Southern California beaches and sunshine for Manhattan’s recent snowpocalyptic winter. She harbors dangerous addictions to guacamole, red velvet cupcakes, sushi, and Argo Tea, fortunately not all together. While she wishes she could honestly say she’d be Dauntless, she’s probably not as tough as she thinks she is. She’d choose Erudite but manage not to be evil about it. Her novels, Unraveling and Unbreakable, are the story of one girl’s fight to save her family, her world, and the one boy she never saw coming.
Michelle and Keith Norris are the cofounders of Paleo f(x)™, the largest of-its-kind health and wellness platform and event in the world. They are passionate speakers and motivators to those seeking deliverance from a broken healthcare system and disabled economic system. Having left the corporate grind far behind, they are now serial entrepreneurs in the health and wellness space, as well as tireless firebrands for advancing the Paleo movement—a cultural reawakening of self-empowerment for the 21st century. In addition to leading the Paleo f(x) movement, Michelle and Keith speak at events and conferences world-wide on the topic of self-empowerment and breaking free of the human zoo.

Amanda Nowlin-O’Banion’s writing draws not just on her imagination but on her myriad experiences of life “off the beaten path.” From rural Texas to New York City to the sparkling Alaskan tundra, Amanda has worked as a sailing instructor, served as a jack-of-all-trades in Denali and taught English inside a maximum security men’s prison. She has been pursued by bears, won first prize for her mayhaw jelly at the county fair and survived to tell about it. Humorous, provocative and genuine, Amanda’s essays, short stories and other writings reveal the changing landscape of Americana, and the human struggles that come as a result. Her novel-in-progress, The Greenest Grass, from which “The Walls, Texas” is excerpted, explores one young woman’s struggle as she challenges traditional land inheritance patterns and the labor division of her family’s ranch. In 2000, Joyce Carol Oates named Amanda the “¡TEX! Emerging Writer” in fiction, and she was nominated for Best New American Voices 2006. Her work has appeared in the Dallas Morning News, Conversely and will appear in the Summer 2006 issue of SHSR. Amanda has been an invited guest on National Public Radio affiliate KUHF’s program “Front Row” and at the Blaffer Gallery Girls Night Out exhibit. She holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from New York University and is currently a Ph.D candidate in literature and creative writing at the University of Houston, where she teaches. Amanda lives in Huntsville, Texas, with her husband Robert. Special thanks are extended to Robert O’Banion, Debbie and Bill Nowlin, and Ree and Daniel Belhumeur.

Concerned by the trends of poor human health and a degraded environment, Steve Nygren was on a treadmill trying to effect change but going nowhere. He surrendered to hopelessness and retreated to the countryside on the edge of Atlanta to raise his family. After seven years of retirement while walking the trails, he realized the tentacles of dysfunction could destroy his rural paradise. Rather than retreat further, he launched an effort to save his own backyard expanding the effort to the surrounding 40,000 acres that is now a living laboratory for change offering solutions and hope to communities around the world who are curious about a better future.
